Our after school ‘Adventure Club’ offers a weekly, term-time trip to the forest. Snacks are provided early in the session after which the adventure continues. Various activities are available: woodland crafts and skills, building incredible woodland structures over a long period of time; cooking and playing games. A real sense of ownership and belonging thrives.
As with everything we do, the season and conditions are our backdrop and the activities naturally alter accordingly. It is here real deep capacity is seen in the children, often when it’s not in the traditional classroom. Our Friday club was our first and is the most established.
There we are lucky that the school allows a Year 8 Forest School Captain each year. One of whom recently vocabalised this outstanding quote which we think really sets the tone of the club:
“I’m terrified of the dark at home and I have to put all the lights on at night time. But I’m not scared at all in the pitch black forest when we’re at Adventure Club, it’s actually more fun”
Clubs are well established in a number of local schools throughout the week and are extremely well attended. For this reason we operate a waiting list. At the request of the children in the club we accept new children in September and January only. The tougher experience of the winter months is the best training with the summer term being the reward.
