Foresters
Greensand Foresters is our group of older children aged year 5 and beyond who love being outdoors and want to extend beyond Forest School into bushcraft and survival.
New members will be helped to attain some new and useful skills but we do ask that those coming along have a genuine interest in outdoor skills and ideally some core experience.
The group has regular meetings on term time Saturday evenings between 4 and 6pm.
Senior, capable and experienced Foresters are then asked to help our younger adventurers at our holiday forest camps, birthday parties and Adventure Clubs for an appropriate reward!
All Greensand Foresters will be working towards the following skills:
- Be able to use sharp cutting tools safely and efficiently.
- Be able to safely light a fire and maintain it for whatever period is required.
- Be able to construct a small survival shelter using natural resources.
- Be able to locate a safe water supply.
- Consider their tasks and be equipped correctly including having enough nutrition and supplies with them to complete this task.
- Be able to shoot safely and accurately.
- Be able to navigate using a map and compass.
- Be able to use basic medical equipment to effect good first aid and also understand how to get help.
- Be able to look after an injured person and when necessary and safe, be able to evacuate the casualty to a place where help can be easily met.
- Be able and willing to pass these skills onto others.
The Foresters Motto is ‘Possumus’.
Greensand Foresters pay a £10 fee weekly and come whenever they are able to as we understand family and school commitments mean Saturday can be a busy day.
